The Greening of a Whidbey Business

Well, you’ve seen The Inconvenient Truth, you recycle at home, and it is your intention to be even more environmentally sensitive than you already are, but how has your business done the same? We would like to have your feedback on tips and ideas of how you have made your office a “greener” place for you, your employees and your customers. Here is a list of local businesses that can help you to beautify our Whidbey paradise.

Here are some local businesses that I use regularly to reduce the environmental footprint at The Chiropractic Zone:

Of course there is Freeland’s Island Recycling and the Bayview Transfer Station Recycling that will take everything from paper, cardboard and glass to fluorescent bulbs, batteries, lawnmowers and much more.

Thanks to a simple request, Gene Felton and the Star Stores are the only place that will now accept and recycle your plastic produce bags? (Or donate them for re-use, i.e. The Senior Thrift)

Cotswold Collectibles (adjacent to the Mutiny Bay Antique Mall) will re-use any packaging materials, i.e. peanuts and such.

Boomerang will refill your copier/printer toner cartridges.

Radio Shack will take back and recycle used rechargeable batteries and printer ink cartridges.

Micromanager will recycle your old cell phones for C.A.S.A.

Frustrated by “Paper or Plastic? Try Casey’s Red Apple's new colorful and sturdy Chico bags for under $5 or the Payless canvas bags. P.S., Casey’s deducts 5 cents each time you use your own bag.

In a future article I will discuss recycling in the office, reducing biologically hazardous cleaning products and other ideas. If you have ideas of how your business employs greener methods, please contact me so that I may include them in future articles. I can be reached at drcraig@chirozone.net.
